Niaouli is, net als eucalyptus, een boom van de Myrtaceae-familie die vijfentwintig meter hoog kan worden, inheems in Nieuw-Caledonië en Australië. Het heeft aanhoudende, geurige bladeren en de zachte, lichtgekleurde schors welke gemakkelijk kan worden afgescheurd als papier, waardoor het de Anglo-Saksische naam kreeg van de boomschorsthee en de bijnaam "boomhuid". Het werd aan het einde van de 19e eeuw in Madagascar geacclimatiseerd om moerassige gebieden te herbebossen. Niaouli biedt een opmerkelijke essentiële olie van effectiviteit en verdraagzaamheid, voorheen gomenol genaamd. Net als echte lavendel, wordt het beschouwd als een wondermiddel omdat de indicaties groot zijn.

Enkel uitwendig gebruik (verdund): op de borst, de solar plexus en de rug voor ademhalingscomfort. Om huidproblemen te bestrijden. Gebruik in diffusie: voor atmosferische desinfectie of voor ademhalingscomfort. Kan ook worden gebruikt door inhalatie of fumigatie.

Enkel uitwendig gebruik. Buiten het bereik van kinderen houden. Vermijd direct of indirect contact met de ogen. Niet gebruiken bij zwangere vrouwen of vrouwen die borstvoeding geven en bij kinderen jonger dan 3 jaar. Vermijd licht en hitte.
